Karting inside Rio’s former autodrome
Kartódromo de Jacarepaguá operated in the complex now replaced by Rio’s Olympic Park and became an important school for local drivers.
Temporary precursor in 1979
While Maqui Mundi was closed, a late-1979 race used an improvised circuit through the pits and main straight, bounded by tyres and concrete blocks.
Permanent circuit and closure
A permanent kart circuit later supported training and championships. Sporting retrospectives place it in the complex until 1995, well before the autodrome’s final demolition in 2012.
Unfinished later project
Work on another track near Gate 4 began in 2000, but it still lacked final asphalt in March 2003 and no opening evidence has been found. The map point represents only the former complex.
