Académie Tag Karting
About Académie Tag Karting
Académie Tag Karting (formerly the Jim Russell Karting Academy) is widely regarded as the "most beautiful karting track in Canada." Nestled in the picturesque mountains of Mont-Tremblant, just minutes from the ski resort, this venue is the outdoor counterpart to Alex Tagliani's indoor center. This is a serious motorsport facility featuring a massive 1.3 km international circuit that has hosted national championships. While it is famous for its Performance Academy—where aspiring racers learn the craft—it is also open to the general public for high-speed rental sessions. If you want to drive professional-grade gas karts on a track designed for Formula 1 development drivers, this is the place.

Detailed guide
The Track Layout
The circuit at Mont-Tremblant is legendary in the North American karting scene.
- Scale: At 1,300 meters, it is significantly longer than typical rental tracks. It features 15 turns, including high-speed straights, technical chicanes, and elevation changes that follow the natural terrain.
- Heritage: The track shares the same DNA as the neighboring Circuit Mont-Tremblant (a former F1 track), offering a smooth, high-grip asphalt surface that rewards precision driving.
The Karts
The Academy uses a fleet of premium Italian CRG karts, maintained to race-ready standards.
- Adult Rentals (CRG Centurion): Powered by 13HP Honda engines (Senior model), these karts are faster and more aggressive than standard amusement park karts. They are available for drivers 13 years+ (minimum 55 inches).
- Junior Rentals: For drivers aged 7-12 (minimum 50 inches). These karts offer a safe introduction to the big track.
- Academy Karts: Students enrolled in the racing school drive high-performance 2-stroke Rotax or Briggs & Stratton racing karts, which are capable of speeds exceeding 100 kph.
The "Performance Academy"
Beyond simple rentals, this venue operates a true racing school.
- Intro to Karting: Half-day or full-day courses available for beginners (Ages 7+).
- Curriculum: Includes classroom theory (racing lines, braking points, flags) followed by guided on-track sessions with professional instructors. It is the perfect first step for anyone looking to get their racing licence.
Facilities & Location
- Arrive & Drive: You do not need to be a student to race here. The track offers 15-minute rental sessions to the public (reservations recommended).
- Terrace: A spectator deck offers stunning views of the track and the surrounding Laurentian mountains.
- Pro Shop: A fully stocked shop selling Alpinestars gear, helmets, and kart parts for owner-drivers.
