Martensville Speedway
About Martensville Speedway
Martensville Speedway is the epicenter of professional kart racing in Saskatchewan. Operated by the non-profit Saskatoon Kart Racers (SKR) club, this outdoor facility is where serious motorsport happens. Located just north of Saskatoon in Martensville, the track is a far cry from indoor amusement parks; it is a CIK-FIA style asphalt road course designed for high-performance 2-stroke and 4-stroke racing karts. While the facility is primarily member-focused for drivers who own their own equipment, it plays a vital role in the community by hosting major regional championships and offering specific "Try-A-Kart" days to introduce new drivers to the thrill of competitive motorsport.

Detailed guide
The Track Layout
The circuit is widely regarded as one of the most technical in Western Canada.
- Configuration: The track measures approximately 900 meters and features between 11 and 14 turns depending on the layout used.
- Technicality: It includes a challenging 1.5-meter elevation change, off-camber corners, and a high-speed straight measuring 183 meters where senior karts can reach impressive speeds.
- Surface: The surface is maintained for competition grip, catering to the soft compound slick tires used in club racing.
Owner-Driver Focus
Martensville Speedway is a private club facility.
- Members: Most drivers here own their karts (Rotax, Briggs & Stratton, etc.) and pay an annual membership for track access.
- Classes: Racing is divided into age and engine categories, ranging from Junior 1 (Ages 8-11) up to Senior and Masters classes.
- Spectators: Racing is free to watch! If you want to see the fastest karts in the province, checking out a club race day (typically Sundays) is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Public Access: The "Try-A-Kart" Program
Since the club does not offer daily rentals, the only way for the general public to drive is through the "Try-A-Kart" program.
- What is it? These are pre-scheduled events (often held once or twice a season, e.g., in Spring) where the club provides karts, safety gear, and instruction for a flat fee.
- Booking: These events sell out quickly and must be booked months in advance via the SKR website. It is a full "intro to racing" experience rather than a quick 10-minute joyride.
Facilities
- Paddock: A large paved pit area where teams work on their karts.
- Grandstands: Viewing areas are available for spectators.
- Safety: The track is equipped with professional run-off areas and marshal posts to ensure safety during high-speed club races.
