Alex O'Grady has added a British single-seater championship to a career that first attracted international attention in karting. The Loughrea driver secured the 2026 GB4 title at Brands Hatch, seven years after winning the IAME International Final at Le Mans.
Motorsport Ireland's 28 September report records the 17-year-old's championship-winning second place and a £50,000 prize. Racing for KMR Sport, he secured the title with one race still to run.
A result built around the championship
GB4's own race-two report identifies Fred Green as the winner and O'Grady as runner-up. A podium was enough for the championship leader, making the second-place finish the decisive result of his weekend.
For Irish karting followers, the connection is the longer development story. O'Grady was ten when he won at Le Mans in 2019; his latest title is a subsequent achievement in a different form of racing, not a karting championship result.
That distinction is useful when following young drivers beyond the kart paddock. Progress should be measured through the competitions they actually enter and the results they achieve, rather than assuming a fixed timetable from one category to the next.
O'Grady's Brands Hatch performance now supplies another concrete milestone for a Galway racing career that began with karting.
