In Donegal, karting is an outdoor pursuit. The county is home to some of the largest and most exciting circuits in the country, offering high speeds and wide tracks that indoor venues simply cannot match. From the massive 900m loop in Letterkenny to the specialist stock car track near the Derry border, Donegal is a haven for petrolheads.
The flagship venue for the county is Letterkenny Activity Centre (Ramelton Road). This facility boasts one of the longest karting tracks in Ireland at nearly 900m. Uniquely, while primarily an outdoor circuit, it features a small indoor section (approx 160m), creating a "hybrid" lap that offers variety and shelter during the race. It runs a fleet of petrol karts and is a massive multi-activity hub, also hosting airsoft, archery, and high ropes, making it the default choice for stag parties and corporate team days in the North West.
In the Inishowen peninsula, Halfway Karting (Burnfoot) offers a raw motorsport experience. Located just 10 minutes from Derry City, this outdoor track runs top-spec Sodi GT5 petrol karts. However, its unique selling point is Stock Car Racing; it is one of the few places in Ireland where you can race modified 1.0L Nissan Micras on a purpose-built track, offering a full-contact alternative to standard go-karts.
