About Kartsport Canterbury

KartSport Canterbury is an owner-driver kart club at Carrs Road in Halswell, Christchurch. It runs monthly club race meetings and scheduled practice for licensed KartSport New Zealand competitors, with classes separated by age and kart specification. Spectators can attend club days free of charge, while the Kart Directory booking button remains disabled.

Owner-driver karting in Christchurch

KartSport Canterbury is a member club for competitive owner-drivers at Carrs Road, Halswell. Its calendar centres on monthly club days, open practice and KartSport New Zealand race classes rather than casual rental sessions.

How club racing works

  • Membership: regular participation requires the appropriate club membership.
  • Licence: competitors need a current KartSport New Zealand licence.
  • Race day: the club describes a five-heat format at its ordinary meetings.
  • Classes: karts are separated by recognised class and driver category.

Getting started

  • Have-a-Go: introductory drives may be arranged through the kart businesses listed by the club.
  • Starting age: the club says karting opportunities begin from age six.
  • Safety kit: a helmet, race suit, gloves and enclosed footwear are required.
  • Next step: speak to the club or an affiliated shop before buying a kart or entering a meeting.

Practice and visiting

  • Practice access: published testing periods are for eligible kart drivers, not public arrive-and-drive hire.
  • Supervision: non-club-day practice must not be undertaken alone.
  • Session courtesy: the club limits track turns to 15 minutes when other drivers are waiting.
  • Spectators: entry for visitors watching ordinary club days is free; check the 2026 calendar before travelling.
