High-speed action awaits in Lancashire.

Lancashire offers a stark choice between the "new school" and the "old school." In Preston, the re-opening of TeamSport has brought high-tech electric racing to the south of the city, while the coast and the Pennines remain strongholds for traditional petrol karting.

The headline news for Preston is the return of TeamSport Preston (Walton Summit). This venue suffered a major fire a few years ago but has re-opened following a massive refurbishment. It is now a fully electric karting facility. The 500m multi-level track features a flyover and runs a fleet of high-torque electric karts. It is also one of the few places in the UK to host Combat Karts, where you race with virtual power-ups (like turbos and missiles) projected onto the track. Clarification on Trax: Long-time residents may remember Trax Motorsport at Preston Docks. This was a separate outdoor facility that has ceased commercial karting operations. The current TeamSport venue is located at Walton Summit (Bamber Bridge), approximately 15-20 minutes away from the old Trax site. For those in Blackpool, the action is outdoors. Formula Kart (North Shore) is a unique venue located right on the promenade. It is one of the few tracks in the UK to offer Twin-Engine Petrol Karts to the general public. The 750m circuit is fast, wide, and offers a visceral experience with the sea breeze in your face. It is a favourite for stag dos visiting the resort. In East Lancashire (Burnley/Colne), Prestige Karting keeps the traditional indoor flame alive. Located just off the M65, this track runs 200cc petrol karts on a technical indoor circuit. It is the primary destination for petrolheads in Blackburn and Nelson who want the sound and smell of a real engine, contrasting sharply with the electric experience in Preston.

Go karting in Lancashire - FAQs

Common questions about the changes to Preston's karting scene and coastal options.

The commercial go-karting track at Trax Motorsport (Preston Docks) has closed. The site is now primarily used for other activities (such as motocross/education). The main go-karting venue in Preston is now TeamSport at Walton Summit.

TeamSport Preston runs an all-electric fleet. Following its refurbishment in 2023 (after a closure due to fire), the track re-opened with modern electric karts that offer instant torque and no fumes.

The main track is Formula Kart, located on the North Shore promenade (near the Uncle Tom's Cabin landmark). Unlike many small amusement tracks in Blackpool, this is a full-size racing circuit with powerful twin-engine karts.

There is no major indoor commercial track in Lancaster itself. Residents usually travel south to TeamSport Preston (approx. 25-30 mins) or north to the tracks in Cumbria.

Available at TeamSport Preston, this is a unique race format where the track is augmented with projections. You can drive over "Turbo" pads to speed up or fire virtual "Missiles" to slow opponents down, playing like a real-life video game.
