Driver development at Sonoma Raceway

Sonoma Raceway Karting Center is a purpose-built outdoor course within the wider raceway complex. Access is programme-led: racing schools, corporate sessions and scheduled owner-driver practice replace ordinary walk-in rental heats.

Karting schools

• Stage 1: a full-day course covers racing lines, braking, acceleration, cornering forces and vehicle balance.
• Stage 2: Stage 1 graduates progress to ROK-powered Tony Karts with targeted coaching and lap-time feedback.
• Minimum age: both schools require drivers to be at least 13.
• Equipment: school karts, helmets, suits and safety equipment are supplied; drivers need closed-toe shoes and trousers.

Owner practice and corporate use

• Open practice: drivers bring their own sprint kart or supermoto and should also bring a generator because exterior power is limited.
• Corporate karting: organised packages use an LO206 fleet with instructors and safety equipment.
• Weather: schools can run in wet conditions with rain tyres, subject to cancellation when conditions become unsafe.
• Calendar first: all access depends on published dates and advance arrangements.

Important access boundary

• No in-house open-practice rentals: Sonoma says tenants may provide rentals on some open-practice days, but the raceway itself does not rent its karts in-house.
• Driver fit: the published range starts at age 13 and 4ft 10in/80lb, with a maximum around 6ft 6in/285lb.
